Board game fans rejoiced when Hasbro announced the relaunch of HeroQuest back in 2020. This month, the quest continues with a new edition of the ‘80s role-playing game aimed to introduce a new generation of fans to the adventure.
Launching Jan. 12 under Hasbro’s subsidiary Avalon Hill, HeroQuest: First Light is an all-in-one tabletop game and includes everything new heroes need to start their journey into roleplay. Players can use the double-sided game board to explore 10 new dungeon-crawling quests to defeat the game master, Zargon, and his forces of evil. The heroes must traverse the dungeons, discover treasures, and battle their way to saving the world.
Although HeroQuest: First Light is a stand-alone game, it is fully compatible with the relaunched HeroQuest Game System from 2021 and all its existing expansion packs.

Starting a roleplaying campaign can be daunting to new players, but Hasbro included everything players need for a successful campaign right in the box. HeroQuest: First Light features more than 100 pieces, from character sheets and game cards to full-color cardboard standees. The four classic HeroQuest heroes sport a fresh new look alongside a detailed dragon minifigure. Whether players are longtime dungeon crawlers or just beginning their tabletop journey, the beginner-friendly instructions make it simple for everyone to jump into the fantasy.
The adventure doesn’t stop there! The game also includes a link to download a unique digital version of the game. The companion app acts as a third-party CPU opponent, taking on the role of Zargon and utilizing players’ existing HeroQuest Game Systems for an epic virtual quest.
