People of Play Opens Registration for 20th Annual Young Inventor Challenge

People of Play (POP) opens registration for the 20th annual Young Inventor Challenge (YIC) International Championship, inviting kids and teens ages 6-18 to submit original toy or game concepts for a chance to win prizes and potential publishing opportunities.

The YIC celebrates two decades of encouraging creativity and confidence in young inventors worldwide. Past participants have represented countries including the U.S., Canada, Germany, Mexico, and the U.K., and more than a dozen winning inventions have made it to store shelves at major retailers like Target.

“I love being part of the YIC, because it’s an opportunity to help foster creativity, innovation, design, play, and growth in the next generation,” says Tony Serebriany, Vice President of Inventor Relations at The Op/USAopoly and a YIC judge. “You never know what amazing new ideas you’ll discover when you leave it to the kids. I truly believe YIC participants are the next generation of game changers and game makers.”

The 2025 program winners will be announced during a live ceremony on Nov. 8 at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair (CHITAG), North America’s largest consumer toy and game event. Participants are not required to attend in person to be eligible to win.

Now in her second year as director, Ahren Hoffman continues to lead the program. In the months leading up to the championship, regional events hosted by retailers, schools, and other organizations will offer opportunities for kids to refine their ideas and pitches using POP’s official planning toolkit.

“The YIC gives kids the power to bring their wildest ideas to life,” says Hoffman. “For 20 years, this program has unlocked the doors to the toy industry for young creators, and this year promises to be our most inspiring yet.”

Awards will be given in junior and senior age groups across six categories: Best Pitch, Most Innovative, Most Engaging, Most Original, Most Marketable, and Best Potential.

The 2025 Young Inventor Challenge is supported by sponsors including Amazon, Mattel, Hasbro, Educational Insights, Crazy Aaron’s, Zigazoo, and others. Registration is open through Oct. 26 at chitag.com/yic.
