What set of “ultimate dinosaurs” wouldn’t include the first dinosaur described by science? Although hardly obscure I wouldn’t exactly call Iguanodon popular either so any new figures of it should warrant some attention and a time to shine on the Dinosaur Toy Blog. Don’t worry though, a figure like this doesn’t require much discussion so we’ll keep things brief.

This Iguanodon is a mixed bag, like many of the recently released Yowie dinosaurs we’ve covered. Fine detailing on the face, defined musculature on the hindlimbs, and correctly rendered hands are some of its pros but the proportions are all out of whack here. This was actually the first Yowie dinosaur I found, and it didn’t give me much hope for the set as a whole.

The head is absurdly large and with the addition of the neck is as long as the entire torso! The forearms are also oversized, even for Iguanodon, which had some massive forearms. Meanwhile, the hindlimbs are too small, as is the tail. The figure is painted brown with a paler underside and orange stripes running down the back. The figure measures about 2.5” in length.

It feels somewhat cruel to pick on such a simple little toy being sold in blind bags for less than $5 but it’s Yowie’s own fault for setting such a high bar with their extant animals. Plus, some of the dinosaurs we’ve looked at were surprisingly decent. This one is in the middle of the road, not as good as offerings such as the Kosmoceratops but far better than others, like the Tyrannosaurus that we haven’t looked at yet. As far as pint size Iguanodon toys go the old Safari TOOB figure is superior. Stay tuned for the next Yowie review, which will be what I consider the best toy in the entire set!
